Theatre and book reviews by Janice Dempsey
Last week the taster exhibition for the Surrey Open Studios opened at the Lewis Elton Gallery on Surrey Universitiy's campus in Guildford. I'm showing two pieces: my five - section painting now called "Looking up" and my most recent lozenge - shaped painting, "Pugin Chimneys at Albury". The exhibition is on until 24th May, and it's free to enter.

It's that time again, the Surrey Open Studios season. I'm getting ready to open my studio to visitors to show my work to possible buyers, The Surrey Open Studios brochure has been proofread and agreed, the volunteers are distributing them and we're all getting into gear for June.
This year, because I'm working in a secondary school full-time, teaching art, I'm only opening up two weekends and a Thursday evening. That's Thursday 14th June, then 16th and 17th June and 23rd and 24th June. Before that, from May 8th, I'm showing two of my paintings in the taster exhibition in the Lewis Elton Gallery at Surrey University, in Guildford. I'm looking forward to entertaining a trickle of visitors to my little studio (which is also my home) and perhaps finding some good homes for my pictures. If nothing else, it will ensure that I spend two solid weekends working on them. |
